Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, volunteers, and visitors that are in compliance with accreditation/regulatory agency requirements. This position oversees, monitors, and evaluates all Environment of Care (EOC) and Life Safety activities including identifying problem areas, devising and implementing solutions for a facility with many acres, buildings, and patient units. The Agency Health & Safety Specialist III directs the emergency planning and management for the hospital in collaboration with the county and state in accordance with their guidance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in occupational health and safety inspection or occupational health and safety program management.

Notes: 

1. Additional education at an accredited college or university with a concentration in fire protection/science or occupational health and safety technology may be substituted, on a year-for year basis for up to two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Occupational Health and Safety classifications or Occupational Health and Safety specialty codes in the Occupational Health and Safety field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
-Experience applying Life Safety Code standards
-Experience maintaining health and safety compliance according to joint commission standards
-Experience developing and operationalizing all planning, training, and exercising related to emergency management activities
-Experience maintaining up to date information on current products used throughout the facility for Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) compliance

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification must provide a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day.
