LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is within the Office of Facilities Management for the Department of General Services located in Baltimore, Maryland. 

Main Purpose of Job

The CMMS Trainer/Technical Writer will work with the CMMS Training Manager with all aspects of developing and operating the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) training program for all State of Maryland agencies that make use of the software system this agency currently employs to maintain State-owned facilities; this includes teaching, curriculum design and development, assessment, and the writing of training publications such as user guides and tutorials.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

 

- Teaching: Will be responsible for conducting live, "real-time" training sessions, both in-person and virtual (i.e., via the Google Meet app), group and one-on-one. Will also be responsible for developing and leading asynchronous online training using a Learning Management System [LMS]. The teaching duties will be performed for DGS and all Maryland State Agencies that make use of this software.

 

- Curriculum development: Will work with the CMMS Training Manager in determining what DGS and State of Maryland employees who use the CMMS system need to know, and be able to do, in said system, and developing modules and/or courses designed to equip said employees with the necessary knowledge and skills.

 

- Evaluation/Assessment: Will work with the CMMS Training Manager in designing and developing evaluation tools (e.g., quizzes and exams), both written and practical application, to assess the level of our trainees' knowledge and skills, as well as the effectiveness of our training.

 

- Writing: Will be responsible for composing training publications such as manuals, user guides and tutorials as supplements to our training sessions. Will also be responsible for creating PowerPoint (or Google Slides) slide presentations to be used in conjunction with training sessions.

 

- Administrative duties: Will be responsible for creating and maintaining attendance records, transcripts, grading quizzes and exams, and recording results of same, and creating and sending certificates of completion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Six years experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year for up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours for each year of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding all qualifications. 

 

- Experience as a writer of educational and/or technical documents (e.g., manuals, user guides, tutorials, etc.).

- Experience as an educator and/or trainer.

- Experience developing curriculum in an academic and/or industrial setting. 

- Experience with distance/virtual training.  

- Experience operating and/or teaching computer software systems.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

The examination for this position will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED.  The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be extended.  The list will be used by the hiring authority to select employees for interviews.  Eligible lists may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.

 

You MUST possess the minimum qualifications before you may be selected for a State job – verification will be completed upon hire.  If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of being placed on the eligibility list, you may participate in the selection process.  Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of being placed on an eligibility list.

 

Please note, selected candidates may be required to complete and successfully pass a State and Federal fingerprint background check prior to being hired.
