Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to learn to coordinate and implement prevention programs, and make recommendations to gain maximum utilization of current services, as well as to expand services. The position will learn to provide and present educational information to local school students, community groups, church groups, etc. The position will participate in health fairs and community outreach events to increase public knowledge of prevention services. Utilize marketing firms to implement media campaigns. The position will learn to maintain liaison and collaborative relationships with community partners & organizations, health care providers, other local health departments, and MDH. The position will learn to compile relevant monthly data to assist the Prevention Director with monthly, quarterly and bi-annual reports and help with development of related grant applications. The position will train individuals on how to use Naloxone and attend workshops, training, and seminars to maintain knowledge and skills and other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one year of professional experience in health services for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate should possess the following experience:
    -speaking in front of middle/high school students & community groups
    -facilitating and implementing prevention programs
    -proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
