Main Purpose of Job

DJS is mandated to provide secure and non-secure residential facilities for the rehabilitation of delinquent youth. The Superintendent II services as the Facility Administrator and provides direct management and supervision for the operation of a juvenile facility, to include personnel and youth ordered into the care and custody of the Department.
This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for the management oversight of the facility to include security operations, training, programs and joint oversight of education, medical services, clinical services, food services, maintenance and human resources. The Superintendent II ensures compliance with all state, local and federal regulations that pertain to the facility as well as policy implementation and all internal and external quality assurance related standards. This position is responsible for creating a positive, clean work environment in which service delivery to the youth can be provided in a safe, effective manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission Regulation.

 EXPERIENCE: Six years of experience providing supervision and guidance to youths in a juvenile facility or juvenile services community program for at-risk youth or working in a correctional setting.  Four years of this experience must have involved exercising supervisory/managerial responsibility over other staff providing services to youth.

NOTE:

An Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the required general experience.  A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to two years of the required general experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
