Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to assist and support Accounting Management in the preparation of various required reporting and reconciliations. This position assists the Chief Financial Officer and the Reporting Accountant Lead in the reporting of monthly financial statements, annual GAAP statements, ACFR, AUP audits, periodic industry reporting, tax reporting, etc. This position works closely with external, internal and legislative auditors and the audit coordination of such audits including monthly financial statements and on-site visits. Will present information to the auditors and requestors of financial information and will work on sensitive and confidential projects.

 The incumbent will assist in the analysis and review sales for the Mega Millions multi-state lottery game to forecast Maryland’s estimated sales and will participate in the meetings with the other member states to assist in the determination of the game’s estimated cash value of the jackpot and the advertised annuity value. This position will reconcile various transactional activity including daily casino claim and check processing; take corrective actions as needed and will assist in the allocations of revenue. 

 Lastly, this position will assist Accounting Management in the creation and documentation of accounting processes into “standard operating procedures.”

POSITION DUTIES

As part of the Accounting and Finance Department, this position assists the lead accountant for financial reporting, banking, revenue disbursements and the financial analysis for the Mega Million Finance jackpot meeting.  This includes maintaining and organizing documentation, coordination with auditors (primarily external), creation and maintenance of the Department’s “standard operating procedures” etc.  Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for reconciling various transactional activity and performing corrective actions as needed.   Must be able to present information clearly and concisely; exercise judgment and discretion; and may work on sensitive and confidential projects. Performs other related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of administrative staff or professional work. 

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience. 

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience. 

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for five years of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience in written communications such as the creation, implementation and maintenance of “standard operating procedures,” responses to requests for information, etc.
2. Experience with accounting software (such as Microsoft Dynamics, etc.)
3. Experience of 1-2 years of the preparation and/or review of Financial data, especially as it relates to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Special Purpose Financial Statements, Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports, etc.) 
4. Experience of 1-2 years in reconciling transactional activity.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
