Main Purpose of Job

This recruitment is for multiple full-time positions.

The Office of Health Care Quality (OHCQ) is the agency within the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) that is charged with monitoring the quality of care in Maryland’s health care facilities and community-based programs. OHCQ is an agent of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and is the designated State survey agency in Maryland. OHCQ issues licenses, thereby authorizing the operation of a business in Maryland; recommends certification to CMS, thereby authorizing participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs; conducts surveys to determine compliance with State and federal regulations; and, provides technical assistance to providers, consumers, and other stakeholders.

This position will provide administrative support to OHCQ's Director of Administration, as well as to other executive team members. This position will maintain and distribute important and confidential records for the agency. This position will also open, sort, read, and distribute incoming correspondence, including paper documents, electronic faxes, and emails in shared mailboxes. 

In addition, this position will provide information to customers, via telephone, regarding federal and State laws, regulations, and processes. Furthermore, this position will direct callers to the correct unit or outside agency. Finally, this position will be responsible for scheduling appointments, interviews, and meetings, along with preparing a room for such an event(s) with audiovisual equipment and online connections. 

These activities support all OHCQ employees and enable them to fulfill their mission to protect the health and safety of Marylanders across the health care continuum. This is an office-based position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of experience performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours, with a major in Secretarial Science or Office Technology from an accredited college, may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience, for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Non-Commissioned Officer in Administration classifications, or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience scheduling appointments, interviews, and/or meetings. He/she should also have experience using audiovisual equipment and/or online connections to prepare a room for an appointment, interview, and/or meeting.  

Additionally, the desired candidate should have professional experience preparing draft reports and proofreading documents.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard on a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
