Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Forestry Service Unit. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

LOCATION OF POSITION

This position will split time between Savage River State Forest (3 days a week) and Potomac Garrett State Forest (2 days a week).  A vehicle will be provided for transportation between offices.

Savage River State Forest = 127 Headquarters Ln. Grantsville, MD 21536 (Garrett County)

Potomac Garrett State Forest = 1431 Potomac Camp Road Oakland, MD 21550 (Garrett County)

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to provide fiscal/budgetary oversight, administrative support, personnel support, and audit and revenue oversight to support the Savage River and Potomac-Garrett State Forests. This position accomplishes its purpose by managing the fiscal/budgetary operations, personnel management, procurement processing, revenue oversight and analysis and general administrative duties. This position also develops and implements procedures to improve the overall operations management of Savage River State Forest. The position provides a dual role in customer service, office management, budgetary, procurement, and administrative support in the operation of the 58,000 acres Savage River State Forest and the 19,000 acre Potomac-Garrett State Forest complexes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience with providing customer and visitor services and in satisfying a variety of public requests.
2. Knowledge and experience in developing and maintaining electronic reports, spreadsheets, desktop publishing products, and databases for business purposes.
3. Knowledge and experience in operational budget monitoring and management.
4. Knowledge and experience in revenue and expense tracking and reconciliation of financial reports.
5. Experience in collecting and processing revenue receipts.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
