Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Parks Services Unit. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Patapsco Valley State Park – 8020 Baltimore National Pike, Ellicott City, Maryland (Howard County)

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Specialist III position at Patapsco Valley State Park, Ellicott City, Maryland, (Howard County). Customer service duties will include providing current information to customers on park policies, regulations and service charges. The incumbent will be responsible for distributing mail and maintaining office files, compiling statistical data to include visitation figures, and purchasing office supplies for park staff. The incumbent will prepare and process park invoices and bank deposits, and monitor expenditures, corporate card purchases, and encumbrances. The position is responsible for reconciling revenue, and tracking concession sales and park inventories, and preparing seasonal contracts. Additionally, this position makes recommendations concerning operational needs and priorities and responds to inquiries from the public and park staff.

The chosen candidate may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience using the following office hardware/equipment: printers, scanners, personal computer, external hard drives, copier, digital phone system, and cash register
2. Experience using the following computer software: Word, Excel, Quicken, Access, Publisher, Internet Explorer, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive.
3. Experience dealing with customers/public in the following methods: telephone, e-mail, written correspondence, face to face contact.
4. Experience monitoring and reconciling fiscal, budgetary, or inventory resources.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
