Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor (MDOL) Division of Labor and Industry is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Administrative Specialist II. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. All candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications during the time apply. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement.

Main Purpose of Job

This position provides administrative support to the Safety Inspection Program by the timely processing and issuing of Citation and Notification of Penalty documents derived from inspections performed by the Safety Inspection staff

POSITION DUTIES

Inputs source data citations from source documents prepared by field inspectors; reviews citations for accuracy; and prepares citation for distribution to establishments.

Provide administrative support to Safety Inspection Unit by ensuring that the daily workflow of administrative responsibilities are performed according to established policies and procedures set forth by management.

Prepares weekly report of all citations prepared and mailed each week.

Performs other duties as assigned by management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:   Three years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DOL/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.

FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS

U.S. Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. Any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing a U.S. Military form DD 214 verifying honorable discharge from service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview). Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of Veterans’ status.
