Our team needs a strong manager with an accounting background and analytical skills to manage staff, set the example, review monthly reconciliations and ensure deadlines are met. The candidate for this position must be able to take initiative, research, analysis data and propose solutions. LOCATION OF POSITION

7800 Harkins Rd Lanham, MD 20706.

This position will work out of the Headquarters Office in Prince George's County located approximately ½ mile from the New Carrollton Metro stop.

POSITION DUTIES

The Division of Finance and Administration is seeking an enthusiastic individual to serve as the Controller of Government Accounting. The Controller will supervise a staff that manages a multi-million dollar financing operations, servicing federal awards and state assets. The chosen candidate must have several years of financial analysis, A/P and A/R accounting, and asset management experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports to include three years performing advanced duties in the areas of grant accounting, systems accounting, auditing or GAAP accounting, as well as three years in managing other accounting professionals.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in a related course of study and thirty credit hours in Accounting, Auditing and related courses for the required education.

2. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.

3. Unofficial college transcripts will be required to verify your education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Public Accountant license
  • Strong analysis and financial accounting experience

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Selected candidates will be subject to Microsoft excel testing.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 106 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
