POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is the responsibility of investigating complaints filed with the Maryland State Board of Chiropractic Examiners and the Maryland State Board of Massage Therapy Examiners alleging violations of the Chiropractic Act or the Massage Therapy Act, including but not limited to professional misconduct, violations of the standard of care, insurance fraud, advertising violations, malpractice, or incompetence. Other duties assigned, but are not limited to: --drafting subpoenas, obtaining statements/evidence from witnesses, case management, analyses of evidence collected, preparing written reports of investigations prior to submission to the Board's Discipline Review Committee (DRC) and testifying before formal disciplinary hearings and courts --Supporting the Chiropractic and Massage Therapy Examiners licensing units by conducting criminal history background investigations of applicants for chiropractic licensure, chiropractic assistant registration, massage therapist licensure and massage practitioner registration

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Seven years of experience conducting criminal investigations, including the preparation of analyses and reports for use in legal proceedings.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree in the field of criminal justice, criminology, law enforcement or an allied health field, (such as nursing, pharmacy, psychology, social work, nutrition, dietetics, speech pathology, audiology) from an accredited college or university and three years of experience conducting criminal investigations, including the preparation of analyses and reports for use in legal proceedings for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Investigator, Police and Intelligence Specialist classifications or Investigator, Police and Intelligence specialty codes in the criminal investigation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
--Experience using the CJIS system for criminal history background checks
--Experience using Lexus Nexus, MVA database, and national reporting database
--Experience with spreadsheets and Google Suites
--Excellent interview and writing skills

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be required to have daily use of a motor vehicle while on official State business. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a privately owned vehicle.
