POSITION DUTIES
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for a Legal Secretary. The position provides administrative support for the four (4) Assistant Attorneys General who constitute the Establishment Unit for the Baltimore City Office of Child Support. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, processing referrals to establish child support; preparing, reviewing, and organizing case files; preparing and typing correspondences and other documents including subpoenas and proposed court orders; tracking and maintaining files; delivering files and pleadings to the courthouse as needed; and generally assisting with the secretarial administration of the unit.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of experience as a legal secretary to include keyboarding legal briefs, pleadings, affidavits, subpoenas and other legal documents; maintaining case files, schedules and logs and verifying legal citations and references.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional secretarial or other clerical experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Legalman classifications or Paralegal specialty codes in the administrative support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.
2. Experience working in the child support field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification must demonstrate ability to keyboard at a minimum speed of forty words per minute.
