Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only statewide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

The housekeeping supervisor will oversee the work of the contracted janitorial staff to ensure that all aspects of the contract are being performed as per the contracted schedule. This position works closely with the Contractor’s Supervisor and the Facilities Director to schedule coverage for special events, productions and emergency covid 19 cleanings and disinfecting that comply with the CDC and state guidelines. 

Note: This is a contractual part-time position working four (4) days a week from 4:30 to 8:30 or 5:00 to 9:00. The candidate must be willing to work a flexible schedule on Saturdays and Sundays for special events.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Supervise and assist in the cleaning of the studio’s, green rooms, restrooms and any conference rooms that are rented for special events to maintain the sanitary and technical needs of the equipment in the studios.

  • Set-up for special events, moving and setting up tables and chairs.

  • Assists in the supervision of event contractors.

  • Works with the floor technician on Saturdays for cleaning and striping and waxing of floors.

  • Maintains inventory records on cleaning supplies and equipment.

  • Maintains daily log schedule.     

  • Other duties that may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: Four years of full-time experience as a housekeeper in a school, hospital, hotel, State facility or other institution.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One year of supervisory experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of stripping and waxing floors care equipment and procedures

Experience working with computers and different software including Microsoft Office and entering data into a database system. 

Experience communicating information, both orally and in writing

Ability to communicate effectively with the general public, co-workers and supervisors.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. 

As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12-month period.

This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
