Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only statewide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

The Executive Producer oversees program staff, talent, content, formats, budgets, community/sponsor relationships, interdepartmental functions and program evaluations. In addition, the Executive Producer develops, supervises the overall vision of the projects and guide producers to meet their project goals.

This is a Special Appointment position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Produce programs, series, or program segments of varying length as assigned by management.
  • Develop and oversee all aspects of various production budgets, including full multi-year project budgets as well as MPT fiscal year budgets.
  • Advise and participate with the Managing Director in the negotiation and preparation of contracts, budgets, timetables and workflow documents as related to out-of-house producers.
  • Work as an integral part of the production team, providing information, materials and counsel to other team members or projects.
  • Execute all administrative documents as required, e.g. timesheets, expense accounts; attend and participate in departmental meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in film, media, mass communications or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and field experience.

Experience: Seven (7) years of experience as a producer.


Note: Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education only. 


For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.

  • Exceptional relationship building skills along with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral or visual media.       

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.  This position may require working outside in unfavorable weather conditions.
