POSITION DUTIES

The Board of Public Works is seeking to fill an immediate position for Administrator I, Wetlands Administration Associate. The selected candidate will serve as assistant to the Wetlands Administrator.

The primary function of the position is to provide administrative assistance, customer-care services and wetlands license creation and maintenance. This position will also provide wetlands science support to sustain the Board of Public Works Wetlands Administration’s mission to evaluate MDE’s license recommendations, provide recommendations to the Board of Public Works, and to issue State tidal wetland licenses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate with at least 6 college credit hours in natural science or wetlands science.

Experience: One year of document creation and production with Microsoft Office and filing or organizing data in an office or classroom setting. In addition, six months of customer service experience in an office or equivalent setting is required.

NOTE:

At least two months of experience with an organization demonstrating interest in wetlands and/or natural resource science may be substituted for the required credit hours.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution in natural resource science
  • Coursework in wetland science
  • Comfortable with occasional field visits including field work in wetlands
  • PSIsafe database archive application
  • Coordination with Maryland State environmental agencies
  • Blog writing
  • Demonstrated writing ability

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Due to the nature of this list, all qualified applicants are placed on an unranked list of candidates and will remain active on this list for at least one year.

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This background check is comprehensive and may involve fingerprinting. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six- month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
