Main Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of this position is to establish and maintain a classroom learning environment within RICA-Baltimore in which students make measurable progress towards identified educational, curricular and treatment goals as evidenced by periodic assessments and progress reviews.

POSITION DUTIES

Implements psycho-educational programs consistent with individualized education and treatment plans by providing instruction to assigned middle and /or high school students.  The majority of this instruction will be in the content areas of Library Science, Reading and Literacy.  Monitors student behavior and intervenes as appropriate when behavior does not meet established standards.  

Plans and organizes time and other resources to provide appropriate and effective instruction to students.  

Identifies educational materials appropriate to support the courses offered in the school.  Identifies reading material and media materials appropriate to support reading and literacy programs and activities.    

Attends and participates in all required faculty and treatment team meetings and implements/facilitates activities which support the school and treatment programs.  

Works as a member of the psycho-educational program team in order to facilitate and achieve the goals of the RICA organization in accordance with its mission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Librarians in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification in the State of Maryland per Section 6-101 of the Education Article of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. Information on requirements for certification and procedures for application may be obtained from the Maryland State Board of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-2595.

Applicants who meet the minimum (and selective) qualifications will be included in further evaluation. The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Please report all related education, experience, dates and hours of work. Clearly indicate your college degree and major on your application, if applicable. For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).
