Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this contractual position is to serve on a regional crisis response and clinical support team to provide on-site mental health services and support to students, local school system staff, and other mental health professionals to meet the mental health needs of students who are in crisis.

POSITION DUTIES

Provides counseling, therapy, and diagnoses students’ mental health. Assess and make clinical evaluations regarding students’ mental health. Develop treatment plans and interventions. Provide appropriate developmental and clinical mental health counseling to students. Serve as a liaison between families and student support teams (SSTs) by meeting with parents/guardians in home and community environments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  A Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 post baccalaureate credit hours of coursework in Education, Education Administration/Supervision, Educational Research, Education Policy Master’s Degree in School Counseling. Certification from the Maryland State Department of Education and licensure as an LCPC from the Maryland Board of Licensing  

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of related experience in coordinating or administering counseling and education programs and/or student support services.

Notes: 

  1. Two additional years of experience, directly related to the position option may be substituted for the required Master’s Degree.  
  2. Possession of a Doctorate in a field related to the position option may be substituted for one year of the required experience. The required field of education and experience are unique for each option and are established by the Department of Education in accordance with Section 2-104 of the Education Article of the Maryland Annotated Code.
  3. The specific education and experience qualifications for each position are on record in the Human Resource Management Branch of the Division of Business Services of the Department of Education. 
  4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program classifications or Education Program specialty codes in the Education field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Multi-level school counseling experience .Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), experience with diverse populations, two-three years of school counseling experience.
