Introduction

This recruitment is limited to current employees of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Engineering & Construction Unit. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Rocky Gap, Allegany County, MD

Main Purpose of Job

The incumbent will serve as Chief of Western Region for DNR Engineering & Construction (E&C). This position supervises 2 Agency Project Engineer/Architect positions in both NRDF, and Critical Maintenance capital projects assigned to DNR E&C. This group is responsible for evaluating, prioritizing, designing, managing, and carrying to completion a wide variety of projects associated with preserving and maintaining buildings, utilities and infrastructure managed by DNR, along with new capital improvements to DNR lands. In addition, this group handles emergency repairs resulting from natural and man-made disasters, as well as other unforeseen emergencies. This position will prepare FEMA damage assessments and applications for reimbursement of storm damage expenses during declared emergencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience as a design and project manager engineer or architect for agency capital and operating construction, maintenance and system services projects.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as an engineer or architect in the building construction field involving the design, construction or repair of building structures or system services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Architecture field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Budget development preparation experience

Critical Maintenance or Capital Project experience

Supervisory experience with duties such as scheduling, conflict resolution, leave and time sheet approval, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to current employees of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
