POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service, is currently accepting applications for three long-term contractual Building Services Workers at Herrington Manor State Park in Oakland, Maryland (Garrett County), and New Germany State Park in Grantsville, Maryland (Garrett County). These full performance level positions will be responsible for providing maintenance, housekeeping and general services for full-service cabins, bath houses, a lake house, day use restrooms, park offices and maintenance shop restrooms. Duties include cleaning state buildings and restrooms, collecting trash and recyclable items, replacing supplies and minor repairs to furniture.               

Employees may be assigned to day, evening, night or rotating shifts which may include weekends and holidays based on staffing needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None.
Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience multi-tasking and working independently.
2. Ability to clean and maintain indoor and outdoor areas.
3. Ability to read warning labels and directions for safe use of supplies, materials and equipment.
4. Experience following verbal and written instructions.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this position. Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Report all education and experience related to the essential functions of this position.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who works an average of at least 12 hours per week. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
