Main Purpose of Job

As the Assistant Director of Accounting for the Department of Budget & Management Central Collection Unit, this position will be responsible for assisting the Director of Accounting in the management and operations of the department.

Responsibilities will include all facets of managing department employees, such as hiring mentoring, motivating and training. Will also recommend and streamline department processes. 

This position will serve as a high-level contact to all of CCU's client agencies and requires strong communication, problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 

This is a management service position that serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting.

Experience: Four years’ experience working and performing accounting duties and applying generally accepted accounting principles.

Notes:

1. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Our preferred candidate will have the following:

· 4 years of supervisory experience - to include scheduling, setting/reviewing performance goals, process improvement and corrective action.

· Advanced level experience using Microsoft Excel

· Experience working with the State of MD FMIS system or other accounting system(s) in state or federal government.
