Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of the Environment, Operational Services Administration, Office of Fiscal Services. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only. The resulting cert list will be maintained for one year. Person's interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

This position has been approved for a 6% salary increase effective July 1, 2021. The salary range demonstrated above does not reflect that increase. Candidates starting prior to July 1 will automatically receive the pay increase on that date.  

This recruitment is limited to current Maryland State employees.

POSITION DUTIES

This is an intermediate level position within the Office of Fiscal Services, Operational Services Administration. The  Fiscal Accounts Technician I performs fiscal duties that include posting accounts transactions, recording, and reconciling departmental cash and revenues. The incumbent in this position will ensure cash/check receipts and revenue allocation are accurately recorded.  In addition, the incumbent will reconcile third party external accounting systems and reports to the agency internal control ledgers, spreadsheets and the State's Fiscal Management Information System (FMIS), in accordance with State and MDEs fiscal policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions.

Notes:

1. Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.

2. Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Experience with FMIS.
2. Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel.
3. Experience with QuickBooks.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on the Cert List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Please report all related education, experience, dates and hours of work.  Clearly indicate your college degree and major on your application, if applicable.  Please note that you will be required by the appointing agency to provide proof upon hire of all certifications, licenses, educational and work experiences.

For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).
