Main Purpose of Job

The position functions as the Deputy Director of the Information Technology Division (ITD)in the Technology and Information Management Command with responsibility for assisting and advising the IT Assistant Commander and IT Director, managing the day-to-day operations, oversight, administration, management of the network, network security, strategic and tactical planning, budgeting, developing and implementing a wide area network, to include traditional data communications, digital microwave and other wireless communications circuits for the Maryland State Police.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other technology-related field.

Experience: Five years or more of progressive IT experience to include direct involvement in leading a team of technical staff, working with the Executive Management of an organization and managing multiple concurrent projects.

NOTE: Candidates may substitute additional experience in cyber security and/or network security on a year-to-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Experience working with government entities

2) Experience with State budgets, procurement processes and vendor management

3) Experience in managing a Windows based server environments

4) Experience in managing a Cisco data network at both the core and the wide area levels

5) Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

In accordance with Section 2-204(b)(6) of the Public Safety Article, Candidates for position in this classification will be subject to an initial drug screening and a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for this recruitment will involve a rating of the training and experience provided on the application. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, and QUALIFIED categories. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill this vacancy. The list will be valid for one year.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
