POSITION DUTIES

The purpose of this position is to design, develop, test, implement and maintain computer programs for Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) and criminal justice entities; to develop, test, implement, and maintain applications within DPSCS.

Attends IT and customer related workshops, seminars, conferences, and training classes to keep abreast of emerging IT technologies, trends, and best business practices.

Maintains communications with IT Supervisor; provides IT Supervisor periodic progress reports for all assigned projects.

Provides/presents customer issues and concerns in meetings with ITCD Management; provides/presents IT assistance, advice, and guidance to the DPSCS agencies in their effort to use technologies to enhance their business processes and provide information to internal users.

Uses/performs SQL and Oracle tools, software, and languages to maintain and to develop new systems and conversion of existing systems; uses/performs .Net programming in the maintenance and enhancement of existing offender management applications in accordance with departmental standards and schedule; adheres to quality management and change management process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology.

Experience: Three years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one additional year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output to process data on computer systems; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages on a year- for-year basis for a high school education.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
