Main Purpose of Job

Maintain knowledge of all Automated Roadside Inspection Programs, current and old. Corrects and troubleshoots all computer software conflicts. Keep current with all updates for Safetynet, inSPECT, Sentri, Capri, AIM, GUARD and other related inspection programs. Provide the current knowledge and training for all users in the MSP and Allied Agencies.

POSITION DUTIES

Consults with personnel from various allied law enforcement agencies, the Maryland Department of the Environment, and State Highway Administration to plan, install, integrate and maintain computer operations and information systems for the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED). Installs and configures software associated with the inSPECT program. Travels to Weigh/Inspection facilities when needed for updates on associated software to desktop and laptop computers. Provides assistance to civilian and uniform personnel for MSP and Allied Agencies in diagnosing and correcting problems that may occur.

Maintains the Safetynet Program. Daily downloads of inspections uploaded from the field of all MSP / Allied Agencies. Obtains accurate data for Inspection reports containing incorrect or missing information. This is done by using METERS, MCMIS, Query Central, CDLIS and Crystal Reports.

Other duties assigned by supervisor / Command staff.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience evaluating, implementing and maintaining personal computer hardware and software.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute nine credit hours in personal computer applications at an accredited college, university or institution for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the completion of a certification program in computer repair, such as Microsoft A+ or an   equivalent program for one year of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information Systems specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience with inspection programs and applications such as inSPECT, Safetynet, Aspen, Safer and Capri

2. Experience installing and configuring computer software

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

In accordance with Section 2-204(b)(6) of the Public Safety Article, Candidates for position in this classification will be subject to an initial drug screening and a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
