LOCATION OF POSITION
Main Purpose of Job
- handling all aspects of the claim investigation, evaluation, and resolution including interviewing State employees, claimants, witnesses, and other parties
- performing on-site inspections
- setting accurate, realistic reserves
- evaluating invoices and other expenses for payment
- evaluating public reports, and other documents submitted by State agencies, claimants, attorneys, and vendors
- maintaining a diary in order to effectively monitor the claims’ status
- communicating with various parties including claimants, attorneys, vendors, internal customers, and the general public for the purpose of conveying information regarding matters related to the State Insurance Trust Fund and claims filed in accordance with the Maryland Tort Claims Act
- negotiating settlements with claimants or third party carriers, etc.
- if a bodily injury is recognized, the file handler must have the file transferred within one (1) business day of receipt of bodily injury notification for reassignment to a team member who handles bodily injury. Currently, this position does not handle any bodily injury claims; in the future this position will or may have the potential for growth in handling bodily injury claims which will include evaluating medical bills and medical reports associated with the resolution of bodily injury claims.
- prepares files for subrogation, develop and monitor payments plans for claimants who wish to satisfy debts owed to the State; refer files to CCU; tracks and records claims payments from third party carriers; ensures accurate information is reported to and received from CCU.

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of experience in settling multi-line claims.
1. Candidates may substitute education at an accredited college or university, at a rate of thirty credit hours for one year of experience d for up to two years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in claims assistance and examining classification or claims assistance and examining specialty codes in the legal and kindred field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

- One of the required three years of experience must be specifically in adjusting auto, property, casualty and/or general liability multi-line claims.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
- Knowledge of the Maryland Tort Claims Act and/or other local government tort claims act
- Experience with subrogation
- Experience with self-insurance
- Experience with commercial insurance
- AIC, SCLA or other insurance industry designation or related course work
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or other insurance CRM / ERP applications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and/or Excel
