Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose is to assist Facility Administrator at the Garrett Children’s Center in providing direct management and supervision for the operation of a juvenile facility, to include personnel and youth court ordered into the custody of the facility.

POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent will be responsible for assisting the Facility Administrator with managing the overall day to day operations of the juvenile facility. Ensuring safety and security are maintained in the facility and that operations are in compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures. This incumbent will be responsible for coordinating staff development training programs, monitoring fiscal business to comply with budgetary allotments, and inspect facilities and ensure operational efficiency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission Regulation.

EXPERIENCE: Six years of experience providing supervision and guidance to youths in a juvenile facility or juvenile services community program for at-risk youth or working in a correctional setting.  Two years of this experience must have involved exercising supervisory responsibility over other staff providing services to youth.

NOTE: An Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the required general experience.  A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to two years of the required general experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates who have not already done so must complete and successfully pass the Entrance Level Correctional Training Course for DJS staff required for the Maryland Correctional Training Commission certificate within 365 days of initial appointment or placement in this classification according to Code of Maryland Regulations 12.10.01.03.  Employees are required to maintain certification while employed.

If you have completed education outside the US, you will need to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.
