Main Purpose of Job

Perform carpentry related maintenance duties with skill and craftsmanship that is necessary to provide patients and staff with a safe, comfortable and attractive environment.

Some job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to; 
  • Construction and repair to interior and exterior of buildings employing safe use of all tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate safe use of state vehicle. 
  • Work in asbestos removal and lead painted wood. Removal as necessary.
  • Complete written work orders in a neat and timely fashion. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Five years of experience in general carpentry, two years of which must have been in finish or trim carpentry work or in cabinetmaking.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional carpentry experience at a rate of one year of experience for two years of education for up to four years of the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a concentration in carpentry may be substituted for three years of the required experience.

3. Graduation from a vocational or technical trade school with a concentration in carpentry may be substituted for up to three years of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in builder          classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the carpentry field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.
