Main Purpose of Job

The Telecommunications Access of Maryland (TAM) Team, through the Maryland Accessible Telecommunications (MAT) equipment distribution program, provides individuals in need of assistive telecommunications devices and services with access to a vast array of options for making and receiving telephone calls. This position is specifically responsible for supporting the MAT program, with responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, receiving and processing applications from MAT program clients, facilitating the distribution of accessible telecommunications equipment to qualified individuals within the State of Maryland, providing training and presentations across the State of Maryland on the use of accessible telecommunications equipment, and maintaining the MAT program database of clients and equipment. The incumbent will interact with MAT clients encompassing a wide range of hearing, speech, cognitive, sensory, or mobility difficulties, and must be comfortable with extended in-person interactions with clients. Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is required. Knowledge of other non-auditory communication methods such as ProTactile is highly preferred. This position will also be responsible for soliciting bids for equipment using PORFP forms, and purchasing such telephone equipment orders from master contractors. This position reports to the Maryland Accessible Technology Manager, and works with the Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Program Association (TEDPA) and other supporting organizations on issues pursuant to the services supported by the TAM program. Participation in public relations efforts, including training and presenting, to assist with communicating the services provided under the Maryland Relay program throughout the state, will be a part of the expectations for this position.

POSITION DUTIES

Provide general MAT Program Support, with responsibilities generally encompassing application processing, database maintenance, sending out bids for equipment, ordering equipment, maintaining inventory tracking, packing, and shipping.

Engage in MAT Field Work, encompassing but not limited to client evaluations, installations, training, presentations, and other activities carrying out the operation of the MAT Program.

Support MAT evaluation center and accessible telecommunications equipment (ATE) procurement and contract administration.

Driving to and from locations periodically may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above at the rate of one year experience for 30 credit hours of education for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
