Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the Communications Supervisor is supervision of the communications center at a Maryland State Police installation. The work involves supervising a group of Police Communication Operators engaged in providing services to law enforcement and other authorized agencies through the operation of computer equipment, multi-channel radio equipment and in person.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of the Communications Supervisor is supervision of the communications center at a Maryland State Police installation. The work involves supervising a group of Police Communication Operators engaged in providing services to law enforcement and other authorized agencies through the operation of computer equipment, multi-channel radio equipment and in person.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years experience performing law enforcement communications work involving the operation of a computer terminal, multi-channel radio, and related equipment.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Operations Specialist classifications or Signal Corps, Cyberspace Support, or Communications specialty codes in the communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PCS Preferred Qualifications:

1. Prior supervision experience performing law enforcement communications work.

2. Prior experience providing training to other performing law enforcement communications.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants for this classification may be subject to an extensive background investigation prior to appointment.

2. Employees in this classification will be required to provide a telephone number at which they can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be place on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED OR QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants will be subject to an interview.
