LOCATION OF POSITION
POSITION DUTIES
The main purpose of this position is to perform the technical and general duties of a Computer Operator II at the Public Safety Data Center. This includes performing duties associated with monitoring the mainframe system and its associated peripheral devices utilizing z/OS, MVS OS/390 operating systems and JES2 subsystem controls. Provide printer support for the mainframe area working with impact and laser printers. Provide tape library management, backup and offsite vaulting support for all mainframe and distributed systems environments. Assist on-line users, vendors, and technical support with software and hardware problems. Maintain a busy helpdesk that supports all communications lines and equipment associated with the National Law Enforcement Teletype System (NLETS), Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT-MVA), all Maryland correctional institutions, Parole and Probation faculties and all Maryland District Court Systems.
Operate computers by entering commands through the main console.
Illustrate knowledge of on-line systems as well as its various components.
Record all system related problems.
Resolves users issues.
Process batch work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Two years of experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems. Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute additional experience operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing or maintaining information on a year-for-year basis for the required education.2. Candidates may substitute fifteen credit hours in computer operation at an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Computer System Operations classifications or Computer System Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
• 6 months experience using mainframes
• 6 months experience working in a help desk environment
