POSITION DUTIES

To answer the switch board at Eastern Correctional Institution and forward caller to the appropriate person or extension. Maintains the ECI telephone directory by updating it quarterly.

Receives incoming calls and transfers the call to appropriate person or extension number.

Provides callers with general information about the agency or facility.

Places long distance and interagency calls in accordance with individual requests and agency policy.

Prioritizes multiple calls so that emergency calls and situations are responded to immediately.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date phone numbers of offices and persons at the assigned agency or facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Education:   Completion of the Eighth grade.

Experience: None.

Note: Candidates may substitute additional experience performing telephone operator duties on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience receiving multiple incoming calls and transfer calls to the appropriate person or extension.

Experience using your customer service skills to provide general information over the phone to callers.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call 24 hours a day and be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
