Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide leadership for continuous performance improvement and safety in the hospital. This position will also manage staff in Performance Improvement, Risk Management, and Patient Safety.

Job duties:

  • Provides leadership to the hospital for performance improvement and safety issues including acting as chair for the PISC. The position oversees performance improvement, risk management, and patient safety.
  • Identifies areas for targeting continuous improvement and risk reduction. Develops action plans to address these areas. Monitors implementation of the plans and develops tools to measure the success.
  • Advises leadership and other key staff regarding their roles related to the requirements of (and changes in requirements of) licensing/accrediting bodies (TJC, OHCQ, CMS, etc.).  Assure that staff understand the meaning of and their roles in implementing and maintaining these requirements. Monthly shares how the hospital is performing in accordance to The Joint Commission and the federal government level of the Center for Medicaid/Medicare services. (Examples: tracer methodology, changing indicators such as staff effectiveness, etc.)
  • Develops tools, educational materials, etc. to convey information regarding compliance with standards, changes in standards, elements of performance, etc.  Develops methods for conveying and educating staff on information to be shared.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Six years of experience in administrative staff or professional work. Two years of this experience must have involved one or more of the following: the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess the following:

  • At least one year of supervisory experience; and,
  • Experience working with joint commission standards and or surveyors.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
