LOCATION OF POSITION

MDH/Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, Environmental Health Bureau/Office of Food Protection/Center for Milk and Dairy Product Safety, Baltimore, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

Through the supervision of Section Heads, this position will administer dairy programs, including overseeing the planning for, and implementation of, each program. This position will implement, direct, coordinate, evaluate, and provide leadership in dairy protection. Additionally, this position will provide leadership in disseminating knowledge of dairy protection and associated community service programs to both the general public and members of the dairy industry.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in Engineering or the biological, environmental or physical sciences.

Experience: Three years of experience supervising a professional staff, or as a Project Supervisor, in the general field of work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in Engineering, Public Administration or Law, as related to environmental health, on a year-for-year basis, for the required education.

2. Applicants may substitute registration as an Environmental Sanitarian, or as a Professional Engineer, for the required education.

3. Applicants may substitute one additional year of experience in Engineering, Public Administration or Law, related to environmental health, for the 30 credit hours of required education.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a Commissioned Officer in Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources classifications, or Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources specialty codes in the Engineering, Natural Resources and Science field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have professional experience in milk and dairy operations. He/she should also have experience utilizing and interpreting different types of databases and reports (i.e. lab results, inspection reports), as well as experience communicating any findings in such reports. Finally, the desired candidate should have experience working with State, local and/or federal agencies, legislators and/or managers of regulated industries.  

The desired candidate should have knowledge of the federal and State organizational structure for milk and dairy product safety.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates appointed to positions in these classifications may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
