Introduction

THIS IS A STATEWIDE RECRUITMENT FOR THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT DIVISION, MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SENIOR. THE TWO (2) VACANCIES ARE LOCATED IN BALTIMORE COUNTY AND ALLEGANY COUNTY, MARYLAND. WHEN APPLYING FOR THIS RECRUITMENT, PLEASE CHECK THE COUNTY FOR WHICH YOU ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT EMPLOYMENT.

LOCATION OF POSITION

1. Maryland State Police Headquarters (Baltimore Co., MD) 1201 Reisterstown Road Pikesville, MD 21208

2. Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack (Allegany Co., MD) 1125 National Highway Cumberland, MD 21502

Main Purpose of Job

Maintain, repair and sustain Maryland State Police property, including, but not limited to: the grounds; exterior structures; building and related fixtures; and, utilities by use of a variety of trade practices such as; carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, H.V.A.C., painting, and other related trades.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Eighth grade.

Experience: Four years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades, three years must be in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field for up to three years of the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience monitoring individuals/contractors performing work at assigned facilities

2. The ability to determine actions to be taken for repairs or in an emergency situation

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates will be subject to an initial drug screen and a complete background investigation to include a polygraph investigation before appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate. Employees in this classification will be required to provide a telephone number where they can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED and QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
