Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for teaching classes to criminal justice students and responsible for coordinating training classes taught by adjunct instructors. Additionally, this position will conduct research and develop classes on various new criminal justice topics.

POSITION DUTIES

· Instruct in-service, mandated and police entry level Criminal Justice training classes.

· Evaluate training courses to determine the value of material before it is presented to client agency personnel.

· Evaluate instructors to determine their skill and knowledge base before making a recommendation on the instructor’s ability to present a topic.

· Design and implement assigned programmatic projects.

· Conduct on-going research to update training materials, lesson plans and presentations for classes being taught.

· Facilitate and coordinate the delivery of training by other training providers.

· Answer inquiries on police training regulations from client agencies and the public.

· Completes special projects.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

In order to meet this educational requirement, an unofficial copy of your transcript must accompany your application.  For education obtained outside the United States, you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.

 

Experience: Three years of experience in administrative or professional work.

 

Notes:

1) Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2) Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3) Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular independent judgement and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, polices, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year for year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet this selective qualification to be considered

Two years of experience as a trainer/instructor of Law Enforcement Officers developing and delivering training.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualification is preferred, not required

Applicant must hold a valid Academic Instructor Certification, COMAR 12.04.06 .

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicant must  successfully complete the  Academic Instructor Certification within six month of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
