Main Purpose of Job

Provide leadership and technical assistance in the planning and implementation of programs for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders at community colleges in Maryland. Serve as the Coordinator of the Pathways Program at assigned colleges; provide coordination and implementation of services at community colleges for consumers participating in the Pathways Program; work in conjunction with the community college faculty. Provide individual and group counseling for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders; provide support to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders at WTC; specialize in the application of low tech Assistive Technology for individuals with autism.

POSITION DUTIES

Work in conjunction with the Supervisor of Autism Services for the expansion and implementation of the Pathways Program to other 2 year institutions of higher learning for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders; facilitate the Pathways Program at new locations and  work collaboratively with DORS and Disability Support Services staff for the identification of program participants; assist the  Supervisor of Autism Services with the development of the Interagency Agreement between DORS and the new locations. Provide educational support services to Pathways participants; facilitate social skills group and weekly meetings with program participants; educate college staff regarding Autism Spectrum Disorders and serve as liaison between program participants and professors; provide individual and group counseling, and crisis intervention services to resolve consumer  issues; assess need for Career Assessment and Assistive Technology services; ensure effective programming and services for participants; assist with identification of vocational goal; collaborate with parents.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree.

Experience: Two years of administrative, librarian, teaching or rehabilitation work in education, library or rehabilitation programs.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as defined above directly related to the position may be substituted for the required Bachelor’s degree at the rate of one year of experience for one year of education.

2. Possession of a Master’s degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two (2) years of experience working with Transition Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorders; experience working on a college campus is preferred.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
