Main Purpose of Job

Serve as an Executive Assistant to the Superintendent of a progressive school for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and assist in the management of the operations of the school. Serve as first point of contact for agency statements to the press in matters relating to the staff or children.

POSITION DUTIES

Assist the Superintendent with outside agencies by compiling and communicating information, preparing correspondence, proofreading materials, and arranging for appointments and meetings to support the work of the school.  Coordinate inter-agency transactions and serve as liaison with students, families, faculty, staff, local citizens, political constituents, media, civic groups, and other agencies in the State government; expedite and coordinate administrative details concerning daily school functions; facilitate office efficiency and productiveness; maintain gift fund receipts and records of expenditures; contact person for corporate purchasing card; prepare the annual school calendar in coordination with the Maryland School for the Blind; provide telephone interpreting for the Superintendent; supervise the coordination of interpreting services including preparation of contract for services and costs associated with requests; serve as resource office for staff regarding School/State practices, policies, and procedures; coordinate interpreting services; coordinate preparations involved with Board of Trustees meetings, including preparation of minutes, dissemination of correspondence, and maintenance of files; assist in development of School policy/procedural manuals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Five years of experience in administrative or professional work.  Strong English writing skills required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of or willingness to learn American Sign Language.

Experience with Google sheets and calendar preferred

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560 – 5-568)
