Introduction

This is an INTERNAL RECRUITMENT, restricted to CURRENT MARYLAND STATE POLICE full-time, permanent and contractual employees and employees working with the state by contract.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the job is to plan, integrate and maintain computer software and hardware for automated computer operations and information systems for the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and numerous allied agencies. The position also implements and manages new and revised programs and prepares routine and statistical reports of microcomputer information systems activities and special projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience evaluating, implementing and maintaining personal computer hardware and software.

Note: 1.  Experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information Systems specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Experience with any of the following web-based applications: Motor Carrier Information System (MCIS), Safety and Fitness Electronic Records System (SAFER) or Commercial Vehicle Information Exchange Window (CVIEW)

2.  Experience preparing and providing training on operations of software systems

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for this classification will be subject to a complete criminal background investigation to include  polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made.  A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection for this process will involve a review of each application.  Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST, BETTER or QUALIFIED category.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill the vacancy.  The list will be valid for one year.
