Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to prevent, detect and eliminate fraud, waste, mismanagement and corruption within the Department of Human Services. This function is accomplished by serving as a trainee in the Office of the Inspector General, assisting in performing independent appraisals of auditable entities of the Department of Human Services and/or following-up on deficiencies noted in audit reports issued by Legislative and other external auditors and advising management of our conclusions and recommendations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.

Experience: None.

Note: Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1,1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

A Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher.

Three months of audit intern experience.

Three months of experience answering questions and explaining information to internal and external customers.

Three month of experience using Microsoft Office Suite Word to create documents and reports and Excel to create spreadsheets and charts/tables.

Three months of experience using TeamMate or similar financial/accounting software and/or databases.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
