Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of the Nurse Manager position is to supervise staff, maintain a therapeutic milieu of one cottage of 24-32 seriously emotionally disturbed adolescents and/or provide supervision to the entire population of 80 adolescents on day, evening or night shift. This position will be responsible for maintaining consistency and predictability in the residence, as well as, providing and maintaining high quality services from the residential staff. Clinical and administrative supervision is provided to staff in order to maintain safety in the environment and program effectiveness. This position will function as the Nurse Manager for the Overnight Shift. The Overnight Shift Nurse Manager will work from 10:45 pm to 7:15 am, including weekends.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include two (2) years as a Registered Nurse in a Psychiatric setting and one (1) year in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity.
Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the Psychiatric option for the required education and experience.
2. Candidates may substitute six years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include three years in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity in the Psychiatric option for the required education and experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate should possess experience working with emotionally disturbed adolescents.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
