Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this full time contractual position is to provide epidemiologic support for contact tracing activities, including analyzing contact tracing data for epidemiologic trends and patterns and supporting local health department contact tracing needs. Job duties will include: Developing processes for and generating process and outcome metrics; Analyzing data for and developing dashboards and reports for MDH, LHD and public needs; Translating and connecting public health and technical needs; Conducting quality assurance on contact tracing data; and, providing subject matter expertise for particular domains (employment, schools, etc.).
Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.
Experience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an Epidemiologist after receipt of the Master’s degree.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred candidates should possess:
Experience with data manipulation, analysis and visualization (e.g., Tableau, statistical software such as SAS);
Experience designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for infectious disease transmission or surveillance at the federal, state, or local level;
Experience working in a high pressure setting with time-sensitive demands; and,
Critical thinking and communication skills as demonstrated through a documented presentation and/or publication record.

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
