Towson, College park, Salisbury Claim Centers

Main Purpose of Job

Obtain detailed, technical information from claimants in order to establish and process and overpayment on UI claim, and to detect potentially fraud with each overpayment.

POSITION DUTIES

This position will conduct fact-finding interviews and obtain factual information from claimants, employers and others in order to determine entitlement to Unemployment Insurance benefits. May be called upon to represent the agency in unemployment insurance appeal hearings. Would be required to assist claimants with questions and concerns about overpaid benefits.

Candidate would work in a fast paced high volume work environment. Work duration would be dependent upon workload.

Adjudicate potentially disqualifying Unemployment Insurance issues in accordance with established guidelines and to provide high quality customer service to claimants who have been overpaid benefits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One year of full time employment, or its equivalent, rendering and/or determining eligibility for an Unemployment Insurance Program within Maryland Department of Labor

OR

One year of full-time employment or its equivalent, in a public/or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program

OR

Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Six (6) months experience in interviewing claimants, employers and other parties of interest to collect essential information; Proficient with word processing and data entry, ability to effectively communicate, strong customer service orientation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MDOL/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MDOL/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (on average 130 hours per month), may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.

As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.  

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one (1) hour every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
