Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is accepting applications for an Administrative Specialist III. This position is the Administrative Specialist for three boards, the Boards of Architects, Certified Interior Designers, and Bay Pilots.

POSITION DUTIES

This position is the Administrative Specialist for three boards, the Boards of Architects, Certified Interior Designers, and Bay Pilots. Duties include providing recommendations to the Board on the adequacy of applications and complaints and composing board correspondence to licensed professionals, professional associations, and residents of Maryland concerning the state statutes and board regulations and policies.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

The administrative specialist is responsible for monthly meetings of the Board of Architects and quarterly meetings of the Certified Interior Designers and Bay Pilots; managing the agendas and documenting the board’s decisions.

Manages, directs and maintains examination, reciprocity, firm and reinstatement application and licensing processes for all Architect and Interior Design licensees and applicants. 

Evaluates credentials of applicants for licensure, and makes decisions based on the authority conferred by board and policies, laws and regulations of the board

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above at the rate of one year experience for 30 credit hours of education for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience with occupational and professional licensing.

Experience interpreting and applying Maryland Laws and Regulations

Experience using AS-400 software

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Department of Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Department of Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
