Main Purpose of Job

A Maintenance Chief IV is the supervisory level of stationary engineering and building maintenance workers. The Maintenance Chief IV at the Department of Juvenile Services, Western Maryland Children's Center will be responsible for the construction, installation, alterations, renovations, preventive maintenance, repairs, and snow removal. The position will be responsible for the daily uninterrupted operation of heating, air conditioning, lighting, sanitation, and all other institutional equipment and systems. The Maintenance Chief IV position will supervise building maintenance personnel and outside contractors who perform maintenance of the facilities; including ensuring compliance with health, safety, and building codes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Eighth grade.

Experience: Five years of experience in the building maintenence or building construction trades including four years of experience assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who possess a trade license and/or certification in one of the following trades are preferred: Carpentry, electrical/electrician, building/facility maintenance, HVAC, painting, or plumbing

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The assessment will be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Please report all related experience and education.  Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Qualified, Better Qualified, or Best Qualified.  Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a period of one year.  This list will be sued by the DJS hiring agency to select employees. 

If you have completed education outside the US, you will need to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.
