Introduction

This is a full-time Contractual position with the Maryland Historical Trust /Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM), located within the Maryland Department of Planning.  JPPM, the State Museum of Archaeology and a center for both regional and statewide archaeological research, is located on 560 acres along the Patuxent River in Calvert County, Maryland and is home to the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab) which houses over 9 million artifacts.  

JPPM is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic candidate to fill the position of Digital Education Content Developer as part of the two-year IMLS grant-funded project “Open Educational Resource (OER) Development at the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum”.

Main Purpose of Job

The IMLS grant-funded project 'Open Educational Resource (OER) Development at the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum' project will build JPPM’s capacity to transform and broaden the various archaeological, historical, preservation, and ecological educational programming that we have been creating for decades into freely accessible, open educational resources for K-12 and college level educators across the US. The Digital Education Coordinator will plan, manage, and be responsible for the implementation of the 2-year project at JPPM under the supervision of the JPPM Director and Assistant Director, with input from relevant JPPM staff as needed. In addition to the minimum and preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will also have experience in marketing and public promotion, familiarity with community engagement methods and principles, and some educational or professional background in archaeology, history, or a related field.

POSITION DUTIES

Lead the research and analysis of the availability of existing digital, open access, and OER content in these fields to identify specific needs in these areas that JPPM can meet

 

Supervise, and assist as needed, the Digital Education Content Developer in converting existing and creating new document-based activities and lessons, short articles and chapters, video lessons, full length video lectures, and supplemental 3D models (through photogrammetry) of features of the park grounds, resources, and archaeological sites that meets the needs identified in the research and analysis;

 

Lead the trialing of content with local K-12 and College level educators to ensure that JPPM is providing a practical service;

 

Oversee the creation of the JPPM OER content webpage;

 

Public and academic dissemination of the results of this project through presentation(s) and publication(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Education, Library Sciences, or a related field.

 

Experience: 2 years of professional experience or internships including one or more of the following: project development and management; curriculum development, working with educational standards, and teaching; open educational resource development; and copyright laws and creative commons licensing.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in writing professional-quality reports, papers, or articles.

 

Intermediate skills in DSLR photography and 4K videography.

 

Intermediate skills in photogrammetry methods and software such as Agisoft Metashape; software in the Adobe CC suite such as Photoshop, Rush, Premier Pro, and InDesign; MS Office suite; and online engagement platforms.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
