POSITION DUTIES
Patuxent Institution is a maximum-security state prison designed to provide remediation programs and services to male and female offenders based upon current best practices. The Psychologist Correctional position is the doctorate, licensed level of professional work. The main purpose of this position is to provide direct psychological services to offenders in one or more programs. Such services may include, but are not limited to, the following: risk assessments; diagnostic assessments; cognitive-behavioral group psychotherapy (the primary treatment modality); individual psychotherapy; and crisis intervention. Additionally, this position may engage in research-related activities, supervision and training of unlicensed members of the psychology staff, and administrative supervision of other professional and clerical employees.
Conducts risk assessments, diagnostic assessments, and other types of psychological assessments as assigned.
Provides direct psychotherapeutic services to offenders. Cognitive-behavioral group psychotherapy may include both process-oriented and more structured, didactic groups. Individual therapeutic services may be provided to a lesser extent, and may include both individual therapy of a long or brief nature, as well as crisis intervention services.
Engages in activities common to the practice of psychology that do not involve the direct provision of assessment or treatment services to offenders (e.g., research-related activities, clinical and/or administrative supervision of psychology staff and other disciplines, etc.).
Participates in miscellaneous projects and tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Doctorate degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university accepted by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
Experience: Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes in the Psychology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
