Main Purpose of Job

The primary of this position is to develop and implement a bilingual educational program for Deaf students in a language accessible environment conducive to the development of the optimal social and emotional growth of Deaf students and to provide a language enriched environment through use of sign language and printed words to meet the varied needs of Deaf students. To be responsible for the classroom instruction of various digital media classes and to teach computer skills and to monitor and maintain the school library.

POSITION DUTIES

Demonstrate mastery of related subject matter, instructional skills, and resource materials for the computer and digital media courses taught. Provide instruction in library/digital media skills. Assess and teach Deaf students including the implementation of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards.  Prepare solid lesson plans based on student assessments and data, and teach lessons using the best practices of bilingual pedagogy and differentiated instruction. Maintain lesson plans, grade books, portfolios, unit plans, daily attendance, and emergency classroom lesson plans. Design and make instructional materials and technology media to enhance student learning. To teach film and video production, editing, cinematography techniques, photography, graphic design, coding, visual communication strategies and others as appropriate. Monitor and maintain a positive classroom environment conducive to learning. Provide leadership and expertise at the school library including serving as school media and digital media teacher. Maintain all library equipment, materials, and library-related inventories. Make recommendations for the ordering of books, magazines, library/media equipment, and materials. Provide professional development on use of media equipment and technological devices. Be proficient with both MAC and PC platforms. Collaborate with teachers and staff in promoting literacy with all students. Assume other duties as directed by the Principal and Assistant Principals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor's degree required.

Candidates must be eligible to apply for or be willing to obtain certification by the Maryland State Department of Education within prescribed amount of time.  Fluency in American Sign Language and written English required.  Knowledge of the Deaf culture, Deaf Education, students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students on different levels and with varying educational and language acquisition backgrounds is required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in Education or Special Education of Deaf students, Maryland State Department of Education Certification. Software knowledge preferred: Imovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, and Adobe Photoshop.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
