We are looking for an experienced Accounting Specialist to supplement our financial team.

POSITION DUTIES

The Agency Accounting Specialist will be a key member of the MEA team, reporting directly to the MEA Director of Finance and Administration and performs accounting, reporting and reconciliation services for the agency.

Typical duties include working within established spreadsheets, ledgers and reports to update data used by the financial team; entering and updating information into the State’s financial systems (i.e. R*STARS, FMIS, ADPICS); confirming accuracy and timeliness of daily financial transactions; and researching and reconciling accounting discrepancies and recommending adjustments. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have at least three years’ experience working in the Maryland State accounting systems; specifically, R*STARS accounting system and FMIS. Candidates should have at least a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university.  

Candidates must exhibit strong organizational, analytical and mathematical skills and must:

Possess the ability work independently, in teams, and under pressures of multiple high visibility deadlines

Possess strong written and oral communication skills

Advanced skills in spreadsheet software and Microsoft office products

Have availability for extended work hours as required to meet budget and financial deadlines

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
