Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only statewide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

Maryland Public Television's Education Department seeks an early childhood projects coordinator to support grant-funded education programs. The person filling this position will be an integral member of the Early Childhood Division supporting the implementation of programs and activities that combine PBS KIDS educational media and developmentally appropriate hands-on learning to support early childhood education programs. The coordinator will be responsible for the planning, logistics, and administrative tasks associated with the projects in conjunction with other MPT Education staff and project partners.

Note: This is a part-time position, 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday in office and on-site in early childhood education environments. Occasional weekend and evening work required. Travel throughout Maryland may be occasionally needed, though primary travel will be in Baltimore City and surrounding areas.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Coordinating the successful implementation of grant-funded early childhood education projects, ensuring all activities are implemented per grant deliverable requirements.
  • Leading the implementation of family night curriculum and professional development training for project partners and early childhood educators.
  • Organizing a master calendar of project activities including: education program site visits, family nights, program materials, trainings, reports and committee meetings with other MPT Education staff and project partners.
  • Coordinating the collection of participant data to support program effectiveness, working closely with program evaluators throughout the grant period.
  • Ensuring that all project activities are of the highest quality and meet Maryland early learning/curriculum standards.
  • Participating in special activities and other projects as needed and performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university

Experience: Must have at least two (2) years of experience conducting training and presentations and assisting parents and educators in accessing online and app-based learning media.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.    

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Knowledgeable in Project Management
  • Must be proficient in using mobile technology (including iPads)
  • Knowledge of Maryland’s training requirements for child care professionals and early childhood learning standards
  • Familiarity with NAEYC standards
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, general use of a computer, and other office equipment
  • Ability to be proactive, self-motivated, well-organized, reliable and detail-oriented
  • Ability to function effectively in an environment of change and balance completing priorities
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently to complete assigned tasks, and have effective and clear verbal and written communication skills

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift, carry, and place on shelf instructional materials, kits, and other containers up to forty pounds.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
