Main Purpose of Job

The Deputy Director is the second ranking senior administrator of the Maryland Department of Health's Center for Tobacco Prevention and Control (CTPC), which works with the Director to set strategic direction for programmatic, policy, and environment and systems across Maryland addressing tobacco use prevention, cessation, and control. With an annual operating budget of over $14 million, CTPC encompasses four Divisions: Local Public Health, Statewide Public Health, Cessation and Health Systems Change, and Tobacco Sales Enforcement. The Deputy Director directly supervises four Division Chiefs with a combined team of 24 professional staff. The Deputy Director will work with the Center Director and Division Chiefs on strategic planning, as well overseeing budget development, expenditure tracking, resource and asset management, and complex large procurements. The Deputy Director is also responsible for ensuring project design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based programming activities are completed in a systematic and efficient manner to achieve MDH, PHPA, CCD, and CTPC's mission, goals, and objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in public health or a related field and at least five years of professional experience in working in public health, including at least three years of experience with tobacco control or a closely related field and three years management experience, including responsibility for developing budgets, tracking expenditures, and staff recruitment and management.

SELECTION PROCESS

This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
